Crunching the Numbers

On-Campus Trends

The data presented in this section were compiled primarily from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and from the University of Texas at Austin’s website (www.utexas.edu/world), and from the American Association of Community College’s website (www.aacc.nche.edu).  Trendsinhate.com compiled the facts in the tables and graphs in this section, and trendsinhate.com performed the statistical analyses and other mathematical calculations in this section, if any.  We take full responsibility for the content of the graphic and numeric facts shown in the graphs and tables.  Permission to distribute any of the information contained in the graphs and tables is required in writing by contacting the webmaster at trendsinhate.com.

NOTE: It is possible, even likely, that the data presented in this section constitute an underrepresentation of the actual number of hate crime incidents that have occurred on college campuses in the United States given the 2009 findings of the New York State Comptroller's Office which found that during 2006 and 2007 five City University of New York schools (the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Queens College, Baruch College, Hunter College, and Medgar Evers College) failed to report 78 out of the total 107 serious crimes on their campuses as is required by federal law.
